What's New
15/09/08 It's been a long, dark year. Poetry: Cut from Water.
04/08/07 er... Sky Blue Void.
30/03/07 More poetry/photos: Drowned World.
08/02/07 More of this poetry/photograph thang: In the Name of the Other.
23/01/07 My ode to Kennington, called (somewhat unsurprisingly) Kennington. It all started with a stunning sunset and sunrise, my iffy pictures of which I've included with the text.
11/12/06 Music: The Antediluvian Bookseller. No, I don't know why, either. But it taught me to spell antediluvian.
02/10/06 Poetry: Bridge. My best.
14/09/06 Writing three whole poems in one year seems to have exhausted my 'literary' creativity (i.e. bullshit quotient). So I've returned to music: Exploded in Dreams.
02/06/06 Accelerating to merely very slow from my usual glacial speed, I've written a new bit of poetry. Don't know why. It's called Always the Second Time Around.
24/04/06 Halfway though the MA. More poetry: Fallen Stars.
07/02/06 The *other* Jethro Perkins has been in touch. That's spooky. It's not like being John Smith and meeting another John Smith; it's something you could easily get paranoid about. The bizarrest thing, as one of my friends pointed out, is that it's impossible to actually prove that I'm not just writing emails to myself, masquerading as the *other* Jethro Perkins. Or *he* could be someone masquerading as a Jethro Perkins (buit for quite what gain I don't know). Maybe *I* really wrote all those Shed 7 reviews that I always attribute to *him*. Or maybe *he's* always attributed them to me! The possibilities for paranoia are endless. For all that, he seems a decent sort.
03/01/06 Happy New Year. I'm just about to disappear back into the MA, but managed to squeeze in a new bit of poetry: Conversations with ghosts on the A13.
27/09/05 I saw Sokurov's The Sun over the weekend. There was an astonishing point where the soundtrack just consisted of quietly burbling detuned radios, which along with the muted, bleached colours conjured an extraordinary sense of isolation and loss, but at the same time of beauty and contemplation too. I was inspired to mess around with radios myself. I know this is hardly original stuff - John Cage, AMM, Holger Czukay and a host of others have made some amazing use of the radio in music. I tried to get a sense of serene melancholy, but the result was actually rather ferocious. I dropped it under the Xun track - listen here.
22/09/05 I'm back from Mongolia and China and have brought a new instrument home with me - a Xun. It's a porcelain egg-shaped thing played in the manner of a flute (i.e. you blow across the mouth hole). It currently takes more puff than my lungs can provide, and consequently hitting all the notes is a bit of pot luck right now, but I'm gradually improving. When slowed down and with a bit of echo slapped on, it's a mean and moody beast indeed - listen here and here. Apologies for the sound quality - I recorded it using a dictation microphone whilst hunched next to the pc (which you can here whirring very loudly in the background). Normal speed versions can be found in the Music section.
29/07/05 I finished the first draft of my Canning Town/Sci-fi novella 'The Game'. I'm now going to sit on it for several years while I do other things. There's some new poetry in the 'Fiction' section and I've updated the 'Other Jethros' section after my sister found an interesting pub in Peru.
27/05/05 After saying I wouldn't update Cradle again, I did. I've ditched the long version and just gone for a 3000 word version.
20/05/05 Almost inevitably, I have been updating Cradle again. I realised I had got the adoption procedure wrong. I also made some other minor alterations. That's really it, this time. Promise.
18/05/05 Cradle has been updated again, to make it shiny and beautiful. There's also a more spartan version, chopped down to under 3000 words.
13/05/05 There's now a version of Microtransmissions with drums. Well, a sort of slow beat. The next thing I want to do is put the sound of starlings over the top of it, when I can get a decent recording of them in my local park.
12/05/05 A new piece of music, very much a work in progress - Microtransmissions.
11/05/05 Ironed out some mistakes in Cradle and generally made it more readable.
10/05/05 It's been a while. I went to an abandoned children's home in Delhi and climbed some hills in the Sikkimese Himalayas. Pictures soon. There's a new piece of fiction - Cradle.
11/03/05 I cast a cold eye over The Light Comes Pouring Out and made some changes.
10/03/05 Added Bigger Than Boris Johnson and Downriver to the music section. Updated links.
04/03/05 Added Imaginary Words and Red Sun to the fiction section.
28/02/05 Added Glass Heart and Veil to the fiction section, and Suicide Drone to the Music section.
24/02/05 Added some links. Thief of Fire added to the Fiction section.
23/02/05 A more condensed MP3 of Lost added, at a nearly-downloadable 12MB.
22/02/05 At the moment the whole site is new. The Light Comes Pouring Out added to the Fiction section and Lost added to the Music section (Careful: Lost is a 24MB monster).
